COVID-19 & Our Amazing Apprentice Josh
Update: 06/05/2020, Josh has now increased his total to a whopping 1000 masks, I hope you will all join me in saying a huge congratulations on this amazing and totally selfless achievement! We are all cheering him on and proud to have Josh as part of the KCE FM Family! During these troubling times, it's always wonderful to see a ray of light shine out of the darkness; COVID-19 is still largely uncharted territory, and I am sure you will agree with me when I say it has affected us all greatly, and that’s why one of our brilliant Engineering Apprentices, Josh Batemen has used this opportunity to put his lockdown time to good use by producing face shields for his local care home.
Currently, the whole world is facing a serious shortage of essential medical supplies and PPE, so Josh decided take the matter into his own hands a few weeks ago, and using his 3D printer, he has designed and created face shields for his local care home.
The materials for each mask cost about £1.50, so Josh’s mum Vicki set up a fundraising page to raise £250 for him. But Josh’s furlough project has grown and grown, and he now has the whole family involved on his fantastic home-based production line – with the fundraising total currently hitting a whopping £4,000!!
Josh and his family have courageously been working flat out, and they have now gone from one 3D printer, to having three 3D printers in full production, with his dad working on holes and his Mum on elastic, they have a smashing and very special team on the assembly line.
Josh has now produced more than 600 face shields which he is delivering to hospitals all over Essex, London and Hertfordshire, including Derham House; Josh’s local Barchester care home, The White House Nursing Home in Letchworth, the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, and to the Marie Curie Hospice, our long standing Client in Hampstead.
Josh plans to donate one of the printers to his old school, Harris Chafford Hundred School when his furlough project ends, and any money left in the fund will go directly to the NHS.
Quite rightly we are all very proud of Josh and of his achievements and we know that his amazing work and commitment will help our wonderful NHS and primary care service front line staff get through this terrible crisis.
